Jelrik Hupkes
Biography
Jelrik Hupkes (*1997) is currently working as a doctoral researcher in Art History at Vrije Universiteit Brussel for the Research Foundation - Flanders on the funded project Visions from the North: The influence of Nordic architecture on the Belgian modern movement (1930-1980). The project is supervised by Prof. dr. Pieter Martens and Prof. dr. Werner Adriaenssens and aims to study how Belgian modernist architects encountered and perceived Nordic architecture and what impact this had on their own work.
Jelrik obtained a Master of Arts in Cultural Heritage Conservation from Uppsala universitet (2023). Earlier, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Universiteit Gent (2021) and a Bachelor in Audiovisual Arts from RITCS School of Arts (2019). Before starting his PhD trajectory, he worked, among others, as a research assistant at the Department of Art History at Uppsala universitet and as a guest research fellow for ArkDes – Sweden’s Centre for Architecture and Design.
