
Felipe Xavier
Biography
Felipe Xavier is a researcher and visual artist. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. through a cotutelle between the Art Studies and Archaeology program at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Artistic Studies – Art and Mediations program at NOVA University Lisbon. Xavier is affiliated with and conducts research at the Histories of Art, Architecture, and Visual Culture (VISU) group at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Institute of Art History (IHA) at NOVA FCSH. He holds a master’s degree in Multimedia/Culture and Art from the University of Porto and a bachelor’s degree in Social Communication/Audiovisual from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
His research focuses on the intersection of Contemporary Art, Aesthetics, and Critical Theory. He is currently working on his doctoral thesis, “Precarious Forms: A Study on the Aesthetics of Instability and Insecurity in Contemporary Art (1989–2019)”, supported by the EUTOPIA scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). His research is supervised by Professors Katarzyna Ruchel-Stockmans (Histories of Art, Architecture, and Visual Culture, VUB), Sonja Lavaert (History, Archaeology, Arts, Philosophy, and Ethics, VUB), and Margarida Brito Alves (IHA-NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST).
