The exhibition ‘Marie de Hongrie: Art & Pouvoir à la Renaissance’ at the Musée royal de Mariemont (from 22 November 2025 to 10 May 2026) highlights the political, diplomatic and artistic role of a central 16th-century figure: Mary of Hungary, sister of Emperor Charles V and governor of the Low Countries.
VISU director Pieter Martens is a member of the exhibition’s international scientific committee and wrote multiple contributions for the exhibition catalogue. The section of the exhibition devoted to the theme ‘War & Peace’ is partly based on his research. He also conceived and authored the digital display ‘Attack and Defence: Sieges and Fortifications in the Border Region, 1540–1560’ presented in the exhibition.
